After avoiding any association with past President George
“W.” Bush during the last four years, Dubya was finally released from his
“secure room” to speak to a representative constituency of the Grand Old
Party. Remember he was persona non grata at the Republican
National Convention. With less than a
week to go, it was George who went to the Cayman Islands to deliver a
closed-door speech to corporate and wealthy businessmen about, well, about tax
shelters.
Of course that’s just speculation on my part and on the part
of many, many of the press who were barred from attending or reporting on the
special event. Likewise, those in attendance
were strongly admonished not to speak to anyone about what they might have
learned from Dubya regarding anything that had to do with the Cayman Islands,
etc. In fact, attendees were “forbidden”
from discussing what happened with anyone (http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/11/bushs-top-secret-cayman-islands-speech-youre-welcome-america.html/).
Governor Romney was unable to attend for a couple of
reasons. First, he is trying to make
every second in this last week of campaigning count, especially with the recent
positive economic indicators and the sudden efficiency of a newly organized
FEMA. You’ll remember last time (Hurricane
Katrina), the head of FEMA for New Orleans was a horse collector. No, not Romney - just another GOP guy named Brown.
Secondly, Governor Romney has been trying to keep whatever distance
he can very visible between himself and Dubya; in fact, he was quick to point
as many differences as he could given the question regarding the two of them in
the second debate.
